MONDAY'S "LATE START" DAY INFORMATIONHere is some updated information shared by Principal Cooke regarding Monday's late-start:
thankful for reading day informationThankful for Reading Day is just around the corner! Next Friday, November 19th, we invite all students to either dress up as their favorite book character (in a school-appropriate costume) or their PJs to celebrate! They may also bring their favorite blanket and stuffed animal to "cozy-up" and read with. We will have a special visit from Corporal Lemke and his service pup (so fun!) and will visit teacher-guest readers throughout the day. Does it get any better than this?! Thanks for encouraging participation. Photos to come! ClosingPlease always feel free to reach out with questions and concerns. I hope you have a great and safe weekend ahead!
Sincerely, Bianca Popola
Planned absence announcementI wanted to let you know that I will be absent this Wednesday - Friday due to an out-of-state family wedding in New Jersey. My cousin is getting married early afternoon on Thursday, so I am flying out with my family on Wednesday. I was out unexpectedly last Monday and Tuesday due to a cold and sinus infection, and I wasn't able to provide the students with prior notice, which I learned made it difficult for many of them. This BROKE my heart! I have been telling them about this upcoming absence for a couple of weeks now though, so they are aware; however, I would appreciate if you also reminded your child of this and that they'll be in excellent hands while I'm gone! Thank you in advance for your support with this. last WEEK, WE LEARNED ABOUT...

monday's "LATE START" DAY INFORMATIONOur second "Late Start" day is this upcoming Monday, October 25th. Please see the below information shared by Principal Cooke - "The superintendent has added six “Late Start” days to the calendar in order to give teachers some additional time to review student data and to make instructional decisions in collaboration with colleagues. Teachers will be in meetings on a rotational basis and we will provide coverage for the impacted teachers. Students who arrive at the normal school time will be engaged in academic tasks, but whole group instruction will not begin until 8:40 a.m. Some logistics for you:

Please note that schools have some autonomy on how the Late Start Days operate. Therefore, if you have children at other schools you may receive different information on how their mornings are organized." THIS WEEK, WE LEARNED ABOUT...

THANK YOU! IREADY REMINDERI’ve had many questions regarding at-home practice since we don’t have homework in 2nd grade. I wanted to encourage the use of iReady - a program purchased by Fulton County that can be accessed on any device through Classlink. Students took a diagnostic assessment in both reading and math at the beginning of the school year to determine areas of mastery and areas for growth in both subjects. With this information, the program created a personalized learning path just for your child based on his/her needs. This is an EXCELLENT source of differentiated instruction that is geared specifically toward helping your child progress and develop understanding! Our goal as a county is to have students complete lessons on their individualized learning path for 45 minutes in reading and 45 minutes in math each week. We are completing some of that time during rotations in the classroom; however, your child is more than welcome to complete additional practice at home to help them reach their weekly goal in both subject areas. If your child chooses to complete lessons at home, please try your best not to assist them. The reason for this is that the more lessons they master, the more challenging the assignments become. If you child is stuck because the content is too difficult and you share answers with him/her, it will continue to assign assignments that are too difficult. If your child is stuck, please encourage him/her to take a break and shoot me an email. I will take a look in the platform to see what domain they’re working in and see what I can do to guide them down a path that will allow them to be more successful. I am here for support! THANK YOU!Our class so generously received this document camera from our Amazon Wish List, and we want to say a huge THANK YOU! What a special surprise! Unfortunately, there was no slip in the package indicating who donated this gift to us. If it was you, please let me know so we can properly thank you! iready reminderI’ve had many questions regarding at-home practice since we don’t have homework in 2nd grade. scholastic Book Fair e-walletThe long-awaited day is almost here! We are visiting the Scholastic Book Fair to purchase items from our wish list this upcoming Monday, September 13th. We couldn't be more excited! If you would like to send in payment for your child to purchase books, you may either send in cash, a check made out to Dolvin Elementary School, or set up an e-wallet through the Scholastic website ---> click here to do so. Furthermore, the Book Fair will be up and running for students to make purchases through Friday, September 17th. Students are allowed to visit before the bell (until 7:40) to make purchases. visit from the pbis cartThis week we had our very first visit from the PBIS prize cart, and it was AWESOME! Mrs. Shaffer and Mrs. Noles are our amazing prize fairies and stopped by our classroom to reward our hard-working students with some amazing goodies. Check it out here. We are already excited for our next visit in October! MATH FLUENCY RESOURCEIncluding this again, from last week's newsletter - I've had quite a few families ask what they can do to help their child practice their basic math facts to develop fluency. A website you can use is xtramath.org. You can set up a free parent account and it takes about seven minutes a day for students to complete. The program works with students on mastery with fluency of math facts starting with addition. Once they master addition, it moves them to subtraction, then to multiplication and division. It also sends parents weekly reports to track how their children are doing. IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES

Pisgah in John's Creek. She will be speaking about her experience escaping from the North Tower and how she coped through the days and months that followed. In addition, Beth's family is continuing their tradition of celebrating First Responders by delivering homemade cards and cookies to local Fire and Police Departments. You can help honor our First Responders by having your children make their own homemade cards for our local Fire and Police department. Please bring in your cards to your homeroom teacher by Thursday, September 9th. You can reach out directly to Beth at [email protected] if you have any questions. IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES
