Attributes are adjectives that we can use to describe shapes. Some attributes are defining (won't change) and non-defining (may change). It is important that we understand which attributes define and shape and those that do not.
2-dimensional Shapes
Hints to Help You Remember Some 2D Shapes
- tri in triangle means 3
- penta in pentagon means 5
- hexa in hexagon means 6
Other Important Shape Vocabulary
- quadrilateral: any 4-sided shape (hint - quad means 4)
- angle: 2 lines that meet at a common point
- side: a line or surface forming a border or face of an object
- vertex/vertices: the point where the sides of a shape or angle meet
