NEXT WEEK, WE WILL LEARN...

  • Reading
    • 2.RI.6   Identify the main purpose of a text, including what the author wants to answer, explain, or describe.
      • We will take a major assessment over this standard next week.
    • 2.RI.2   Identify the main topic of a multiparagraph text as well as the focus of specific paragraphs within the text.
  • Writing
    • ELAGSE2W1   Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.
    • ELAGSE2W5   With guidance and support from adults and peers, focus on a topic and strengthen writing as needed by revising and editing.
  • Grammar
    • ELAGSE2L1.c   Use reflexive pronouns (e.g., myself, ourselves).
      • We will take a minor assessment (classwork) over this standard next week.
  • Phonics
    • ELAGSE2RF3   Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
      • au, aw, augh, & al
  • Math
    • Unit 2.5 - On Level - Please click here for the unit 5 parent letter.
      • MGSE2.G.3   Partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, a third of, etc., and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths. Recognize that equal shares of identical wholes need not have the same shape.
    • Unit 3.2 - Advanced - Please click here for the unit 2 parent letter.
      • MGSE3.OA.2   Interpret whole number quotients of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 56 ÷ 8 as the number of objects in each share when 56 objects are partitioned equally into 8 shares (How many in each group?), or as a number of shares when 56 objects are partitioned into equal shares of 8 objects each (How many groups can you make?). For example, describe a context in which a number of shares or a number of groups can be expressed as 56 ÷ 8.
      • MGSE3.OA.3   Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities,‡ e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
      • MGSE3.OA.4   Determine the unknown whole number in a multiplication or division equation relating three whole numbers using the inverse relationship of multiplication and division. For example, determine the unknown number that makes the equation true in each of the equations, 8 x ? = 48, 5 = □ ÷ 3, 6 x 6 = ?.
      • MGSE3.OA.5   Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide. Examples: If 6 x 4 = 24 is known, then 4 x 6 = 24 is also known. (Commutative property of multiplication.) 3 x 5 x 2 can be found by 3 x 5 = 15, then 15 x 2 = 30, or by 5 x 2 = 10, then 3 x 10 = 30. (Associative property of multiplication.) Knowing that 8 x 5 = 40 and 8 x 2 = 16, one can find 8 x 7 as 8 x (5 + 2) = (8 x 5) + (8 x 2) = 40 + 16 = 56. (Distributive property.)
      • MGSE3.OA.7   Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 x 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
    • Social Studies
      • SS2H1   Describe the lives and contributions of historical figures in Georgia history.
      • SS2H1.d   Martin Luther King, Jr. (civil rights).

VOCABULARY PARADE

Picture
Picture
Our Vocabulary parade is RIGHT around the corner (March 1st)! Your child will select a word to become a costume (see above). We brainstormed some words during class this week and completed a mini-plan for our costumes. I sent them home in the students' black communication journal last Thursday. Your child isn't bound to this word - it was just a way to warm our minds up to the idea of choosing a word we could "become." On Tuesday, your child must bring to school...
  • a wearable sign with his/her word & definition
  • a costume to show his/her word
I am so excited! Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or need any help.

CLOSING

Please always feel free to reach out with questions and concerns. I hope you have a great and safe weekend ahead!

This curriculum, called Think First and Stay Safe, is approved by the district and required for all students in Fulton County Schools in grades K-5. If you would like to have your child opt-out/not participate in this year’s lesson, please complete the opt-out letter and return to me. The deadline to opt-out is February 24th. Please reach out to our school counselor, Ms. Layton, at [email protected] if you have any questions or would like to preview the lessons. These lessons will start February 28th.
