We kicked off our Dolvin Fun Run FUNdraiser on March 22nd. Thank you for the huge amount of support we have already seen in just a few days!

Our goal this year is to have students complete 35 laps on March 30th! It’s going to be a FUN experience for ALL students and comes with a brand new character theme, called Sports City Worldwide!  Not only will this help our school raise some much-needed funds, but it will also engage your students socially & emotionally.

How can you help?
  • Register on mybooster.com!  Our goal is to get 100% of our school registered.
  • SHARE your student’s donation link with friends & family!
  • Donate if you are able to.

Thank you for supporting Dolvin Elementary!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!

As a class, we have consistently been getting 45 minutes weekly on BOTH iReady Math and iReady Reading, so it's time to CELEBRATE! I will buy ice cream and toppings for an ice cream bar celebration next Friday, April 1st. If your child has dietary restrictions or allergies, please reach out to me and feel free to send in an alternative (I can refrigerate or freeze, if necessary)!

SPIRIT DAY - DRESS AS AN IMPOSTOR! (APRIL 1ST)

Dolvin Spirit Day is on April 1, 2022.
We invite you to dress as an imposter!!

Prepping for our upcoming unit test with some FUN Lucky Charms Graphing!
Vocabulary Day Parade - late upload!

This WEEK, WE WILL LEARN...

  • Reading
    • 2.RI.9   Compare and contrast the most important points presented by two texts on the same topic.
  • Writing
    • ELAGSE2W3   Write narratives in which they recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide a sense of closure.
    • ELAGSE2W5.a   May include prewriting.
  • Grammar
    • ELAGSE2L1.f   Produce, expand, and rearrange complete simple and compound sentences (e.g., The boy watched the movie; The little boy watched the movie; The action movie was watched by the little boy).
    Phonics
    • ELAGSE2RF3   Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
      • prefix "re" (rewind, redo, replay)
  • Math
    • Unit 2.5 - On Level - Please click here for the unit 5 parent letter.
      • MGSE2.MD.10   Draw a picture graph and a bar graph (with single-unit scale) to represent a data set with up to four categories. Solve simple put-together, take-apart, and compare problems using information presented in a bar graph.
      • MGSE2.G.1   Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces. Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.
      • MGSE2.G.2   Partition a rectangle into rows and columns of same-size squares and count to find the total number of them.
      • MGSE2.G.3   Partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, a third of, etc., and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths. Recognize that equal shares of identical wholes need not have the same shape.
        • We will take a major assessment over these standards next week.
    • Unit 3.2 - Advanced - Please click here for the unit 2 parent letter.
      • MGSE3.OA.2   Interpret whole number quotients of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 56 ÷ 8 as the number of objects in each share when 56 objects are partitioned equally into 8 shares (How many in each group?), or as a number of shares when 56 objects are partitioned into equal shares of 8 objects each (How many groups can you make?). For example, describe a context in which a number of shares or a number of groups can be expressed as 56 ÷ 8.
      • MGSE3.OA.3   Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities,‡ e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
      • MGSE3.OA.4   Determine the unknown whole number in a multiplication or division equation relating three whole numbers using the inverse relationship of multiplication and division. For example, determine the unknown number that makes the equation true in each of the equations, 8 x ? = 48, 5 = □ ÷ 3, 6 x 6 = ?.
      • MGSE3.OA.5   Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide. Examples: If 6 x 4 = 24 is known, then 4 x 6 = 24 is also known. (Commutative property of multiplication.) 3 x 5 x 2 can be found by 3 x 5 = 15, then 15 x 2 = 30, or by 5 x 2 = 10, then 3 x 10 = 30. (Associative property of multiplication.) Knowing that 8 x 5 = 40 and 8 x 2 = 16, one can find 8 x 7 as 8 x (5 + 2) = (8 x 5) + (8 x 2) = 40 + 16 = 56. (Distributive property.)
      • MGSE3.OA.7   Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 x 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
        • We will take a major assessment over these standards next week.
    • Social Studies
      • SS2H1   Describe the lives and contributions of historical figures in Georgia history.
        • SS2H1.e   Juliette Gordon Low (Girl Scouts and leadership)

Thank you all SO MUCH for the outpouring of love and appreciation you showed me this SAW! My heart is bursting at the seams after receiving tons of thoughtful cards, beautiful flowers, and generous gifts from the class (and PTA!) over the course of the week. I am so thankful to have the privilege of teaching your child!

basket raffle coordinator needed!

The 2021-2022 Spring Family Fun Night is in the works - woohoo! One of the best events of the year that I am beyond excited to welcome back!

Each class will create a basket to enter into the basket raffle. On Spring Family Fun Night, students and families who attend can drop in raffle tickets to the baskets they wish to win. Names will be drawn for winners and many students will be thrilled with their new prizes!

With that being said, our class needs a Basket Raffle Coordinator! If you're interested, please reach out directly to our wonderful Room Mother, Mrs. Guggenheim, at sandraguggenheim@gmail.com.

Thank you in advance for making this event a success!

To prepare for the graphing portion of our upcoming math assessment, we are going to complete a Lucky Charms graphing activity next week! If you wish for your child to not participate, please shoot me a quick email before the start of the week. I will email parents of children who have allergies or dietary restrictions separately, so be on the lookout! Stay tuned for some fun photos!
