We all felt the LOVE this week during our Valentine's Day Card Exchange!

NEXT WEEK, WE WILL LEARN...

  • Reading
    • 2.RI.6   Identify the main purpose of a text, including what the author wants to answer, explain, or describe.
  • Writing
    • ELAGSE2W1   Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.
  • Grammar
    • ELAGSE2L2.c   Use an apostrophe to form contractions and frequently occurring possessives.
  • Phonics
    • ELAGSE2RF3   Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
      • long U patters - ue, ew, ui, u_e
  • Math
    • Unit 2.5 - On Level - Please click here for the unit 5 parent letter.
      • MGSE2.G.1   Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces. Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.
        • We will take a minor assessment over this standard next week.
      • MGSE2.G.2 Partition a rectangle into rows and columns of same-size squares and count to find the total number of them.
    • Unit 3.2 - Advanced - Please click here for the unit 2 parent letter.
      • MGSE3.OA.5   Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide. Examples: If 6 x 4 = 24 is known, then 4 x 6 = 24 is also known. (Commutative property of multiplication.) 3 x 5 x 2 can be found by 3 x 5 = 15, then 15 x 2 = 30, or by 5 x 2 = 10, then 3 x 10 = 30. (Associative property of multiplication.) Knowing that 8 x 5 = 40 and 8 x 2 = 16, one can find 8 x 7 as 8 x (5 + 2) = (8 x 5) + (8 x 2) = 40 + 16 = 56. (Distributive property.)
        • We will take a minor assessment over this standard next week.
      • MGSE3.OA.7   Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 x 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
  • Science
    • S2E1.b   Construct an argument to support the claim that although the sun appears to be the brightest and largest star, it is actually medium in size and brightness.
    • S2E1.a   Ask questions to describe the physical attributes (size and brightness) of stars.
    • S2E2.a   Plan and carry out an investigation to determine the effect of the position of the sun in relation to a fixed object on Earth at various times of the day.
    • S2E2.b   Design and build a structure that demonstrates how shadows change throughout the day.
      • We will take a major assessment over the above standards next week.

VOCABULARY PARADE

Our Vocabulary parade is on its way (March 1st)! Your child will select a word to become a costume (see above). We brainstormed some words during class this week and completed a mini-plan for our costumes. I sent them home in the students' black communication journal yesterday afternoon. Your child isn't bound to this word - it was just a way to warm our minds up to the idea of choosing a word we could "become." Can't wait to see what costumes our class comes up with!

CLOSING

Please always feel free to reach out with questions and concerns. I hope you have a great and safe weekend ahead!

Sincerely,

Bianca Popola
