NEXT WEEK, WE WILL LEARN...

  • Reading
    • 2.RI.6   Identify the main purpose of a text, including what the author wants to answer, explain, or describe.
  • Writing
    • ELAGSE2W1   Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.
  • Grammar
    • ELAGSE2L2.c   Use an apostrophe to form contractions and frequently occurring possessives.
  • Phonics
    • ELAGSE2RF3   Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
      • -oo, both long and short U sound (look - short, book - short, cool - long, noon - long)
  • Math
    • Unit 2.5 - On Level - Please click here for the unit 5 parent letter.
      • MGSE2.G.1   Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces. Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.
    • Unit 3.2 - Advanced - Please click here for the unit 2 parent letter.
      • MGSE3.OA.1   Interpret products of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 5 x 7 as the total number of objects in 5 groups of 7 objects each. For example, describe a context in which a total number of objects can be expressed as 5 x 7.
      • MGSE3.OA.3   Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities,‡ e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
      • MGSE3.OA.7   Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 x 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
  • Science
    • S2E1.b   Construct an argument to support the claim that although the sun appears to be the brightest and largest star, it is actually medium in size and brightness.
    • S2E1.a   Ask questions to describe the physical attributes (size and brightness) of stars.
    • S2E2.a   Plan and carry out an investigation to determine the effect of the position of the sun in relation to a fixed object on Earth at various times of the day.

Think First, stay safe

Every year, Dolvin students receive a scripted lesson on personal safety to help protect them from child abuse. This curriculum, called Think First and Stay Safe, is approved by the district and required for all students in Fulton County Schools in grades K-5. If you would like to have your child opt-out/not participate in this year’s lesson, please complete the opt-out letter and return to me. The deadline to opt-out is February 24th. Please reach out to our school counselor, Ms. Layton, at laytonj@fultonschools.org if you have any questions or would like to preview the lessons. These lessons will start February 28th.

INTERNATIONAL DAY

Please see the below information regarding our 2022 International Day. This is one of my favorite days of the school year!
